IELTS Exam Overview

- Listening:
- Duration: 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes transfer time)
- Content: Four recordings of native English speakers and a series of questions.
- Reading:
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Content (Academic): Three long texts from books, journals, magazines, and newspapers.
- Content (General Training): Extracts from books, magazines, newspapers, notices, advertisements, company handbooks, and guidelines.
- Writing:
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Content (Academic): Two tasks: a descriptive report based on visual information (graph/chart/table/diagram) and an essay.
- Content (General Training): Two tasks: a letter (formal/informal) and an essay.
- Speaking:
- Duration: 11-14 minutes
- Content: A face-to-face interview divided into three parts: an introduction and interview, a long turn where the candidate speaks for 1-2 minutes on a given topic, and a two-way discussion related to the topic.

- Task 2: Write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem in at least 250 words.
- Duration: 11-14 minutes
- Format:
- Part 1: Introduction and interview (4-5 minutes) on familiar topics such as home, family, work, studies, and interests.
- Part 2: Long turn (3-4 minutes) where the candidate speaks for 1-2 minutes on a given topic, followed by a few questions from the examiner.
- Part 3: Two-way discussion (4-5 minutes) related to the topic in Part 2, focusing on more abstract ideas and issues.
